School starts next week, drivers asked to be mindful of school zones

Stopped-School-Bus-What-do-I-do

CLARKSVILLE, TN - Students return to the classroom next week on Aug. 8, and Clarksville Police Department would like to remind drivers to be on the lookout for school zones.

Ensuring the safe travel of children to and from school is paramount. This year there will be more children walking to school, so it is vitally important that motorists slow down and be mindful of their surroundings. CPD will have officers in each school zone in the mornings and afternoons to help slow down traffic.

CPD will have officers at each school zone for drop off and pickup. Additionally, sign boards will be placed on Rossview Road, Cunningham Lane and Tiny Town Road.

Additionally, CPD wants to remind the citizens that when school buses stop on the roadway for the purpose of picking up or dropping off students (you'll know by the sign and the flashing lights) all traffic is required to stop.

In the case of roadways with a divider between east and west traffic, such as Tiny Town Road, both lanes are required to stop. These are not considered separate roadways.
