Background

Mayor Joe Pitts is a native of Clarksville and a product of the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System. He graduated from Northwest High School in 1976, and from Austin Peay State University in 1980.

Joe and his wife, Cynthia, an ordained minister, have five children, and are grandparents of thirteen. They are members of Faith Outreach Church in Clarksville. He believes his life’s calling is to be of service to others.

His hobbies include reading, gardening, and watching old movies with his wife. Joe lives his life according to the Scripture found in Luke 12:48, For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall much be required.

Service

Prior to his 2019 election as the 21st mayor for the City of Clarksville, Joe served six two-year terms representing the people of District 67 in the Tennessee House of Representatives. While in the House, he served on the House Education Instruction and Programs Committee and Sub-committee; the Three Branches Institute for the Department of Children's Services; and was a member of the Tennessee General Assembly Veterans Caucus.

Joe was also Vice President of Planters Bank in Clarksville for more than 13 years. Planters is a community bank with 12 branches in Clarksville, Hopkinsville and southern Kentucky.

Joe’s passion for service focuses on public education and serving veterans and their families. 

Education

Joe has completed post-graduate work at the Institute for Organizational Management at the University of Georgia, and the Emerging Political Leaders program at the University of Virginia.
